Greetings everyone,

I have a 2018 Escape SE 4WD. Behind the shifter in the center console is a USB plug and 12V power port. I'd like to remove this panel to see what is behind it in hopes of fitting my ham radio in there for a clean install.

If you have removed this piece or know of instructions to do so, can you point me in that direction? I see plenty of how-tos for accessing and replacing the radio, but this doesn't appear to be accessible that way. It looks like I may have to remove the trim piece around the shifter that includes the cupholders. I don't want to remove any more than I have to; it seems like once you remove a piece, it's never quite the same fit-and-finish as before and results in more squeaks and rattles.

Picture for reference is from Ford's stock photos. The area I'm referring to is in the red square.

Thank you,

I had to remove this piece in my 2015 Flex to get the APIM out of the center stack (left the sunroof open in a thunderstorm- water and electronics don't mix!). I found this on YouTube for a 2014 Escape, different look but which appears to be assembled the same way as an '18 and the sequence of the steps are just like those for my 2015 Flex; common design. Hope this helps.
Thank you. I found that video earlier, but there are significant differences. There may not be enough space behind there to do anything, so it may all be for nothing.

I was looking online and found access to Chilton manuals for under $30 for a year. I got that and I'm able to see what needs to be done. For future reference, the floor console needs to be partially removed. Here are the steps:
1. Open arm rest cover
2. Detach the panel to the left of the center instrument panel (between steering wheel and IP)
3. Detach the panel to the right of the center instrument panel (in front of passenger)
4. Remove floor console upper trim panel
5. Remove shift-handle boot and ring
6. Remove right-hand cover
7. Remove left-hand cover
8. Slide the "floor console front finish panel" downward. That's the name of the part I'm wanting to remove.

Unfortunately, they use CAD drawings, and there's no indication from the drawings what is behind the console.

Thanks for helping.
