My 2013 Escape has been intermittently displaying the check engine light for the past few years. I brought it to the dealership a few times but each time I arrived the light happened to be off so I was advised not to bother investigating if the vehicle was operating correctly. I purchased an ODB reader and found it was throwing code P0451 indicating a problem with the EVAP pressure sensor.
I have a Premium Care extended warranty that expires next month so I brought it to the dealership. They investigated and told me that the problem was the fuel tank pressure sensor and it needed to be replaced and confirmed it would be covered under warranty. They called back today and now say the sensor was contaminated with undercoating and therefore not warrantable. They asked me if I wanted to proceed with the replacement for an estimate of CAD$700.
I get CorrosionFree rustproofing applied every 18 months so I suppose this is a possible explanation. I was just wondering if anyone else has any experience with this and has had any luck getting Ford to cover or I guess potentially the rustproofing company if it was their fault?
Any advice or insight appreciated.
