I just bought the Ford Escape SE Turbo 2.0L
But suddenly Colombia start having problem with the dollar and the GAS prices went to the top.
My concern is now," is it possible without having any problems to mix Regular Gas with Extra Gas. They told me here that it is not advisable cause it will get motor problems ,cause my car has a Turbo.
The compression ratio of the motor is (9.3 : 1)
I am planning to mix 50-50.
Please if there are some experts here,Let me know if it is possible YES or NO
Here they say NOWAY,"but I dont think so.
What do you think ....????

That's 87 or higher by the US standard of measurement from the wiki here that would be 95 RON (Extra Gas) in Columbia, so that would probably be the lowest there. To be safe I would not go below the minimum in the owners manual for your country.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating

If you were to read this wiki you will see that what the US calls octane is NOT the same formula that other countries use, so 87 octane in the US is not the same as 87 octane in other countries. just like a gallon is not the same in Great Britain as it is in the United States. Simply because we use the same word does not mean it is identical.
I am a post graduate engineer, if you wish not to take this advise that is fine.

I forgot to tell you all that I live in Colombia South America and not Columbia in the USA.
I tried to edit my post but don't know where to Edit.
My manual say I can use regular gas (what is here in colombia 87 oct) but the Car Company say NOWAY cause it's a TURBO and TURBO you must use EXTRA or what they called in USA PREMIUM GAS.
Sometimes I think the car company wants me to use EXTRA so they never see my car for maintainance.Maybe I am wrong or maybe they just dont know what to say.
When they sold me the car they say it has security alarm and after two days I realize there is no alarm. I had to take the car so they assembly an alarm ,cause really the car came without security alarm.
Then I ask them for an Alarm that close windows also when it's active and they say it's impossible cause I will have problem with the computer.
My wish is I had contact with FORD general company and ask them these questions, but HOW ? I think by giving them my specific car registration number they will tell me exactly what is what.
I live in Pereira and contacted Medellin (Another City in Colombia ) where there is a very big Ford Garage. It seems its the biggest of South America, but another problem arrised.
The Policy of Pereira has nothing to do with Medellin. GREAT, very great. Now I dont know why in Pereira its different. I always thought Ford is Ford everywhere in the world.
All has the same policy. Thre are many things rising in my head on this moment. First," if I know this," I have never bought this Ford.
What I really need now is a hand to reach the bigger guys to find out and straight things here in Colombia.
I would really appreciate if someone can help me reach these guys. Phone number or mail addresses. I am now in a position that I dont even trust the manual they gave me here.

old turbo engines required high octane gas.

this new engine has Direct Injection, which makes it safe to use regular gas. whatever is recommended in your manual

Read the owners manual. GREAT," it says in the beginning : Editado por Ford Motor Colombia.
That means edited by Ford Motor of Colombia. There is not even a phone number of Ford Motor Colombia.
No e-mails no phone numbers. That was the first steps I looked for in the manual.
If there were then I should not have ask for.

What is called Extra in Columbia, s.a. equates to what we in the U.S. know as Regular.
The U.S. and Canada use a different rating system and a different formula than the rest of the world. (sort of like Metric vs. SAE).
Automobiles here are also tuned to different specifications. That is why you should go by the guidelines of Ford for your country.

I really really doubt it will be a Country tunning specific for each country where a Ford is Sold...
In Panama, there is no difference, between a US owneer manual

Yes, atlcarl69 I know exactly what you mean with difference of EXTRA and REGULAR
The Extra here in Colombia is about 92-93 Octane and Regular is 87 Octane. That is exactly the same as USA and my island where I born.
I am from Aruba and we have an crude OIL refinery there that support USA for many years,"even during the second world war. So we call the Extra also Premium, just like in USA.
I just compare by octane number. The SAE and Metric use the same Octane numbers.
Thank you for the contact you gave me and I will try next week cause tomorrow is not a working day.

Don't mix gas but regular gas alone will not hurt the vehicle in any way. You may notice performance differences with lower grades of gas as they will generate less horsepower. More of a concern is not having more than 10-15% ethanol content.

Ford in USA

I contacted FORD in USA and after 30 minutes they told me that they need me to send them e little bottle of 20cc gasoline of regular and extra so they can measure it for me. I asked them why do I have to send that for. They answer me: Very simple," in Colombia they say many things but never it's the truth.
I Colombia they lie the whole country in every aspect of live.
Seems that Colombia has no specific law that bind them. Mmmm ,to tell you the truth I am now farther away from what I wanted to know. Now I have no other choice to measure this Octane myself and then make my own decision. Sending bottles of gasoline cost me more money then do it myself. ( I hope)
Now I need the tester to measure this octane here and I hope it's not expensive or I have to give up and keep drinking extra gasoline here.

@int1422 hey... I live in Panama... my advise: test both grades, feel the car and make a choice. At least here running on regular (aka91oct) the car runs pretty bad... running on premium (extra, 95oct) cars runs better and it is noticiable, at least on 1.6T engine.
Another thing I've noticed is the brand...Texaco just runs so much better than any other we've tried.

car manufacturers usually make sure that you can run any gas on their car to avoid "warranty" issues. However, the rule of thumb for running high compression or forced induction cars would always be higher the octane the better. Running on 87 octane will only get you a lot of carbon build up in your chamber/ or on pistons. That 30~40 cents different per gallon from 87 to 93 can possibly make your engine last a year or two longer so think wisely....
