Collision Warning System

The 2017 Escape that I purchased this month included the Collision Warning System option, a feature I really wanted in my next vehicle.
Based on the information about the system in the manual (page 193) I was under the assumption that I would have a graphical display come up with distance warnings. I have done a number of tests and the only warning I ever get is the heads up display red lights and a Collision Warning in the center of the dash that would be far to late to avoid a collision. I have the system set to the highest sensitivity.
Attached are how it should display and work (according to the manual). Any insight would be great.

Yes I have ACC. It is turned on in the settings however I read in the manual if it is active that the Collision Warning will not work so I was testing without it active. Are you thinking that it needs to be turned off in the settings?

For me, I have the sensitivity set to its lowest setting. I get alarms for a car making a right hand turn if I’m not slowing down enough for the car turning. I guess if the car came to a mid-stop in the corner it could be a collision, but so far it hasn’t even been close. I’ve had it go off when someone is in the left turn lane and I’m driving past the parked cars. I’ve had it go off with traffic is stopping quickly in front of me (Expected Alarm). I’ve also been parked at a stoplight and was rear ended, when I got hit, I got the alarm for almost hitting the car in front of me.

As far as I can tell this is the normal operation, but maybe still a little too sensitive.

The ACC is awesome, and yet a little...frustrating? Its frustrating in that even in its lowest distance/sensitivity it leaves enough of a gap for a car to fit in. I know that can be argued as appropriate spacing, however its enough room for a car to merge in, and then guess what...you get the collision braking!

We have had this happen to us several times on the highway. ACC leaves enough of a gap for a car to fill in, and then the collision system brakes extremely abruptly. Id hate to be the guy behind me when it happens.

If it did not leave a big enough gap and the car in front of you suddenly stooped and you hit that car you would be suing Ford because the system could not stop the car in time. From my experience you should not be using ACC when traffic density is such that people will be cutting you off. You can always hit the gas to override the system to close to gap if you think someone is going to cut you off.
