Hard to ask for a refund when I didn’t pay anything for the fix
Mail it to Ford, they're getting short-changed! lol
At the very least, tell those jerks to install the other 4 rivets just in case. Granted it'll look worse, but that's better than more welds being torn away and screwing something else up.
I'm going to tell the SA to have the techs install all of them, I don't want to repeat this mess later.

I’m wondering what the “ instructions “ that are in the kit say. Maybe they’ve identified the specific welds that fail first and if not failed they rivet those specific ones?

Good question. I think others have said the seal welds start failing before the others, so maybe that's it.
I have doorjamb fitment and open/closing issues already, and only 1 of mine (yep, behind the seal) has popped completely at this point.
Makes me wonder if things are bending and not yet breaking internally on mine.
No matter what, if they don't use all the rivets, I want them in case things do start letting go elsewhere. I have a rivet-gun I've used on my old Wagoneer so wouldn't be difficult to do.

Does anyone know if this has been fixed in the 2023 or 2024 Escapes? I'm a little leery of my 2021 Escape Hybrid SE since it is affected by the engine recall and I don't think Ford will ever actually fix the problem. So I am thinking of trading my 2021 in on a 2024, but don't want to wind up with another problem car.
The door hinge issue was fixed after 2022 I think. They actually changed the design of the hinge or how it is constructed, knowing it became a problem.

Just saw this and wondered if anyone has had transmission issues? Have a 2013 Ford Escape with 44000 miles having new one installed not through the dealership, loved the car bought new and since l am 80 years old thought this car would last the rest of my life. No help from dealership.

You should ask that question in the 3rd Gen section seen here: https://www.fordescape.org/forums/
It'll also help avoid confusion here as this "thread" is solely about the 4th gen spot welds.
And congrats on hitting 80.

They are looking for failed or indented spot welds, if you look at the the pics of his door the welds by the interior trim are not indented.and there's no way to see under the trim.
I'm going to hazard a guess that full door shell replacement is going to require a full failure of the majority of the welds with damage to the shell (eg bent or the spot welds pulled in such a way that the rivets don't hold).

Many 2023 models are also affected with this problem. Look on Carmax.com for 2023 escapes. Take the VIN from one of them and check for recalls/CSP's. The spot weld problem will show up on many of them too. The first Escape I just clicked on has the problem. It was an ST Line.

Just had the door check completed. The rivets past inspection so they installed the kit. Mine at least has covers over the hinge making it look like it was always that way.

I got mine done on Tuesday. I didn't see anything noticeable that was done, although the rubber gasket piece that covers the cables that go into the door jam area looked like they had been greased, not outward visual pieces to be seen. I did the Valet pick up and drop off. They picked up at 1030a and delivered it back by 5pm. I just had the kit fix, not a new door ..the put the fix on both driver and passenger front

I am not certain what exactly the service kit contained but the part number for the Service kit is I believe LJ6Z*78235A62*A Reinforcement. They inspected them the same day all the dealer systems went down so it took some time to get all the parts ordered when it came back up. When I searched the part number, no pics or anything came up but this was the price of the part number LOL

supposed to be a bracket and at least 6 rivets but that picture above shows a rubber cover mine does not have. it also shows the existing weak spot welds un touched. I would like to see behind that rubber cover.
Mine looks like post 56 but has the cover added. The door welds past inspection just as with Stevedbvik1 so only needed the kit with no exposed rivets. If any of the rivets had an issue the dealer told me they would have replaced the door. As far as the original weld that is showing I had that looked at previously by the body shop and was told it was not a weak weld just poor finish.

For the non believers. There are rivets behind the weather stripping. I am the sure the fix depends upon what the dealer's inspection uncovers. In this case the doors passed inspection and only required the kit.

What this other posts I've seen online tells me, is that the dealerships will do the absolute bare minimum to "repair" this issue. The kit comes with 6 rivets, and I think all 6 should be used because there is no telling how many more spot-welds might eventually break loose if only a limited number of rivets is used. A couple of your unrepaired spot welds in post #70 look very suspect to me, and I wouldn't be surprised to see them break loose later.
