Questions about parts for my 2016 Ford Escape Titanium

Hello,

I was talking to some people at my work (Firestone) about what I could do to my car to make it sound better, and one of them suggested that I try to find an article or forum post about the topic. I'm glad they did, because I found this forum! It's exactly what I needed to figure out what options are available.

After reading a few different threads about customizations and upgrades, I have a few questions about brands.

Is WeatherTech a good choice for mats, window detectors, and things like that? They offer several of the things I am wanting, and their name popped up on this forum more than once. (UPDATE: I talked with somebody who bought a set of WeatherTech mats for their vehicle and they said they were not very good. Specifically that they curl on the edges. He recommended a brand called Tux. I looked and they don’t make mats for my year, but do seem better quality than the WeatherTech.)

The first major upgrade I want is a better air intake and I am planning on going with K&N. I know they are good, but is there better?

One of the things I want to do is to get aftermarket rims, and if there is enough room increase the wheel size to 19". One of my Co-workers suggested the brands XXR and ESR as being cost effective options. Does anybody have experience with them?

In the future I would like to upgrade the exhaust system, and I found a company called MagnaFlow which looks good. Does anybody know if the performance exhaust system they offer is effective?

Another future upgrade would be to add some nerf bars, and I found a brand called Romik that has a small selection of them. Anybody know if they are decent?

Thanks for your time.

If you feel like your escape is a dog off the line (turbo spool), you could get a Banks pedal monster or a pedal commander. Both are around $300. It makes a big difference if you want to go faster faster. There are other threads that talk about them on this forum.
I got the weathertech sunshade full vehicle kit ($160). It's a lot of shades to put them all on. They work great though. I like how one side is black for heat and the other is reflective for cool. The roll of shades does take up some space though. I haven't got their floor liners.
I wanted to get a cold air intake, but California says no. :( I went with the K&N High-Flow Original Lifetime Engine Air Filter instead. I was under the impression I would gain 3 hp, but who knows.
I looked at exhausts too, but couldn't decide what to do. Didn't seem like there were many choices when I looked years ago.

We have Weathertechs in one of our cars, no issues. There are other brands, like Husky, that offer all weather, decently tough mats, cut specifically for our Escapes. Sometimes, they are even cheaper. I recommend looking on carid.com. Amazon is okay, but I'm a stickler for knowing what I'm getting, and carid.com is a great site. As for intake upgrades and whatnot, my personal opinion is not to mess with it. You can get a different filter for the existing setup, but some of the aftermarket intake setups are not made that well, and don't really do a better job. Wanna boost performance? Make clean the fuel injectors, make sure the air filter it has is clean, use good gas, and if you're over 100k miles, new plugs. If she was neglected, she'll feel a lot better to drive.

As for exhaust, there is an option to buy an aftermarket system, goes from the cat back, that is designed to fit the Escapes with the 2.0. It is $1,000+, and I'm sure someone on here has it. I advise looking for someone who had experience with it on here (might already be a thread) and seeing how they like it, because sometimes, you change the exhaust and hate it after. $1,000 is a lot to spend to find out you don't like it.

I've got a set of XXR wheels on an old Triumph- they're okay. Look at Petrol brand wheels too. I've got a set of 17" wheels made by them for my Kuga and they're great value for the money. Also, their wheels are reasonably lightweight. Wheels

Magnaflow make an exhaust system to suit- try searching old posts for more info.

About 4 years ago I bought the floor mats below on Amazon. Not bad for $125 for a full set. No curling, and they are a perfect fit for the Escape. Now they are $182 for the set which is getting up there. But I think this is one of those fake brands that slaps their names on the product and there might be 20 other companies selling the same item with a different logo. So you may be able to look around Amazon or Walmart or eBay and see the same style for cheaper.
