Same issue for me as Angelfan, except I have a 2016 Flex. Auto updates is on. I have tried wifi. I have tried usb. Wifi doesnt do anything. Usb sat "Updating" for over 3 hours. I do not have a "scan for updates" button. Auto update is either on or off, no other options on the screen. Also my last update now says 7/7/2004....which is 12 years before my car was even built. 😭😭😭

Many with your version have had trouble updating to the latest Ford update for their vehicle 3.0.20204 through the Ford site by USB or wifi and have done it through the Cyanlabs free site where they can update to the latest version 3.4.23188 and free maps which are currently NA 2.22. Your current maps are 10 years old.

I did that with my 2017 model some time back and now use Cyanlabs for all future software and map updates by USB with no issues.

If you go down this track ensure you watch the video in the link top left which explains how to download both non nav and nav units. The sync updater is further down on the left to download.
Also remember not to remove the USB stick when messaged shortly after the download starts but allow the system to reboot and continue to download maps etc. which may take 40 minutes to an hour with engine running. Just disable the 30 minute engine idle cut off if your vehicle has it.

Yep that version 3.4.20204 is the last update from Ford for your model and is fine if you want to retain it. Ford will not be giving any more updates for your model and you have to pay them for updated maps as you probably know.

You can update your maps to the latest version NA 2.22 free from Cyanlabs if you wish without updating the software.
You just use the same Cyanlabs updater but just select maps only for the update.

Newer Ford current maps will probably be released in a month or so through Cyanlabs as they always cover the previous years road changes etc.

I may have misled you a bit there and am not completely sure if you can use Cyanlabs to update the maps only if you have updated to 3.0.20204 through the Ford site and not Cyanlabs.

I think it would be far better for you to update to the latest Version 3.4.23188 or whatever and the latest free maps through Cyanlabs down the track when it suits you.
You could then update any new maps alone as they are released without updating software unless there are new software updates you wish to include.

You would be then leaving the Ford site 'fold' and would do future software and free map updates with Cyanlabs which has worked fine for me in the past as the Ford site has no further updates for our models as mentioned earlier and new maps from Ford are expensive. (around US$140).

Hello UofMEngineer, everyone

I hope you guys can help me.
I have update my sync3 to 3.0, with no problems. That unlocked a 24gb maps update on ford, that I downloaded to same exfat formatted usb and proceeded to install. About and hour later, still with "updating" message on the screen, I had to turn off the car and go work. Since then, the car tries to resume the install but always fails after a couple mins with the dreaded mem_err03, everytime. How can I fix this?

Heres the answers:

1) What error do you see? MEM_ERR03
2) When? 1~3 mins after plugged in the USB drive
3) Have you tried anything on your own to fix it, e.g. install a different package? I tried 2 USB drives and fresh download file from Ford.
4) Vehicle model focus year 2017 with nav
5) Region, in case your from across the pond/s. Europe/PT

My usb stick is 32gb. I formated it as exfat and used it a couple days before to update sync 3 to 3.0, with success. Already tried with another one, same size, but with the same result.
I figure the update got interrupted when i turned off the car and maybe it didnt delete the files it copied there, maybe now its trying to copy them again instead of overwriting?
Is there anyway I can "clear the space" and try again from scratch?
I already did a master reset, but it didnt help.

Sure, its 3.0, build 20204. Gracenote 1.1.1.1127 (eu0010). About the maps, after the failed update sync now says I'm on f11 - but i was updating from f6.1

I suggest you go to the Cyanlabs forum and join it and ask about your issue there ensuring that you advise them that you are trying to update through the Ford site, no Cyanlabs.
Many helpful people there and if you get no joy through the Ford site you may like to update through the Cyanlabs site with free maps as I do.

Fairly sure the screen would not indicate f11 maps unless they were completely updated. If everything appears to be working ok currently with sync just see if there are any issues down the track.
If you have voice does it work ok with Nav?
Try a few locations with Nav and see how it performs.

Ok, I will use it for a while and see if it works right. But I did interrupt the install before I got any install finished message... And on retry started getting that mem error.

Visit Cyanlabs, you may have to use FMods jailbreak to remove the maps so that they can be reinstalled or you may have to do a piecemeal install.
If you're not using a good quality USB it is not unusual for a map update to go sideways.
