UofMEngineer Thanks for all the help!!!

My Gracenote version is BLANK

autoinstall.lst =

Code:
; SYNC3 Consumer Assembly Upgrade - Release 3.0.25 - Only for My16 NonNav/NonEU assemblies.

[SYNCGen3.0_3.0.20204_PRODUCT]

Item3 = GB5T-14G386-AC
Open3 = SyncMyRide\GB5T-14G386-AC.tar.gz
Options = Delay,Include,Transaction
to install one at a time, do I create an autoinstall.lst with just 2 lines Item1 and Open1 (for each tar.gz file)?

do I include the Options line? and if so what Options values?

I have 7 tar.gz files, what order do I run them in? (you only mentioned 3) Or did my first 3 run successfully?
So, you could just do this, then repeat:

[SYNCGen3.0_ALL]
Item1 = JR3T-14G391-BF
Open1 = SyncMyRide\JR3T-14G391-BF.tar.gz
Options = AutoInstall,Delay

Then, replace the Item1/Open1 files with the JR3T-14G381-AX, then JR3T-14G423-BB on successive installs. This will install, then pop-up and wait for you to remove the drive. If it finishes, remove the drive, shut off for ~2-3 minutes until it's fully asleep. Update the script, then wash, rinse, repeat.

Great, I will try

what about the last one. GB5T-14G386-AC. That is not needed?

keep the options line the same for every install?

1) What error do you see? None really, Update in progress mainly but have occasionally received a "signature invalid" notice maybe 3 times total in 40 attempts. Typically 1+ hour update that eventually turns screen black and never boots back up with out some kind of intervention. Usually have to Master Reset after leaving door open for a few to get the screen stay on again. As long as I am not trying to do this update, the 1.0 software is stable and functions as intended with no issue.
2) When? Hours and maybe a few screen loads later. Usually ends up in a black screen and USB port lighting will change from Blue to Red after just a little over an hour trying to install the file.
3) Have you tried anything on your own to fix it, e.g. install a different package? Multiple attempts of redownloading files, reformatting 2 different flash drives, one 16 and 64, two different brands, battery unhooked twice and fuses changed as well initially because the screen was black and wouldn't comeback on. Tried to comment Steps 4,5&6 out and attempted to install half of the size only to get the invalid signature notice once a restart happened. Mad enough to attempt the CyanLabs method to a 3.4 but that's the only two times where I received an insufficient memory error and it simply remained working in 1.0 version.
4) Vehicle model year 2016 F150 NAV
5) Region, in case your from across the pond/s. US and Truck was made in Dearborn Michigan

I have read that I might need to update to 2.2 or 2.3 before going from 1 to 3 but i can't find that file either. Every link I have clicked is long gone.

WIFI is currently on and connected to the truck. I do not have the option to push a button and check for updates from this screen. I can only turn the Auto updates on or off and view current software version. Last checked for updates is stating 05/19/2015.

I've never heard of the USB light changing color. The long black screen and such really make me wonder if there isn't actually some sort of hardware problem. The signature error also doesn't make sense as all files are production signed.

Would you possibly know which ones really matter or possibly know where a working 2.2 version maybe?

I agree, I thought something was wrong with it as well but I thought maybe due to the size of the files and time it takes, it was simply overheating. As long as I am not trying to perform this update, it works flawlessly. My thought was maybe I can install the main ones now and get the map updates later if that was possible?

No, there haven’t been 2.x updates in ages. Items 3, 4 and 5 are the important ones.Top 2 just check for the right hardware and type, last makes the XML to upload.

Nevermind, you're so good that you fixed it magically. I was frustrated with your previous answer (3rd day of trying to update this and you were the hail mary and you hadn't seen the issue so I was like this thing is screwed) so I decided I was going to step away from it for a moment. I decided to restart the install but go fill up on gas and take the truck to the carwash. Though I never turned the vehicle fully off, I did keep it on aux. I get home and shut the truck off but leave the usb stick in. Eat and take a shower and decided that I am going to try the Fat32 method. Head back to the truck, take out the stick, and plug up my phone and start the truck. Listened to some jams while reformatting the stick and before I finished putting all the files on, "updating system software" came up approximately 10 minutes after starting the truck (I am connected to WIFI in the truck btw). Baffled since there is no usb in the port, I decided to wait around just to see what would happen. About 30 minutes go by and get the installation complete, remove usb and it will take effect next restart. I unplug my phone, shut the truck off for about 5 minutes and sure enough it finally updated to 3.0. Granted last night before I went to bed, the nav maps was blank but I got into it this morning and the 1 14 maps were there but the system was acting a "laggy" as of this morning. I also know where the reset Nav Fault button is in the eject/forward menu if this remains an issue. Honestly, my thought is if I just left it running in the garage connected to WIFI, it would have eventually got it. I kept doing Master Reset which probably kept restarting the process. SO, after I get home today, I am going to just let it sit connected to WIFI and see if I get any other updates. I now have the button to push to check for updates.

I am positive if I wasn't so frustrated to step away from it that I wouldn't have gotten it fixed. In a small way, I am glad you didn't know the answer lol.

during the JR3T-14G423-BB install, I got a error MEM_ERR03

but when I check the SYNC version it looks like it updated, did everything get updated correctly?

SYNC 3 Version: 3.0
Build 20204_PRODUCT

Gracenote 1.1.1.1130 (GL-0011)
I installed the new USB hub. HC3Z-19A387-E

and Apple CarPlay now works!!!!!

thanks to everyone that helped, especially UofMEngineer!!!!

So, since this seems to be depressingly common, I figured I'd make a separate thread for it to avoid further clogging of other threads. If you're having trouble updating to v3.0 (or any version really), shoot me a PM or ask with the details of:

1) What error do you see? MEM_ERR03
2) When?
10 MINUTES AFTER INSERTING THE MEMORY

3) Have you tried anything on your own to fix it, e.g. install a different package?NO
4) Vehicle model year ESCAPE 2017 TITANIUM
5) Region, in case your from across the pond/s. CENTRAL AMERICA

Since there are several different variants that folks have run into based of the above, namely #3 , there's no blanket solution that'll work for everyone.

Hello, I just joined in hopes of some help. It's amazing to see somebody helping out so many people. Thank you in advance. I have a 2016 Ford Focus RS with Sync3 (non navigation) that I tried to update from 1.0 to 3.0. I followed the Ford site instructions exactly (exFat, etc). I already changed the USB hub in hopes of apple carplay in the future. So I inserted the USB, it showed "updating" for over an hour and nothing finished. I finally gave up and pulled the USB since I hear it should be a 30 min process. This is probably where I messed up. I'm not very computer savvy and my local Ford dealership is not very helpful

1) What error do you see? Whenever I put the USB stick now I get : "Bad Installation File" One or more of the files being installed on your system did not install successfully. If I remove the stick it goes back to normal version 1.0 function
2) When? I only get the message when I plug in the stick
3) Have you tried anything on your own to fix it, e.g. install a different package? I tried cycling the ignition several times, master reset a couple of times, tried a different USB thumb drive, both are 32 GB. I tried in both the old USB plug by the radio and the recently installed newer style hub
4) Vehicle model year 2016 Focus RS Non Navigation
5) Region, in case your from across the pond/s Miami, Florida

I forget what that exact error means, sometimes it points to a corrupt download though. Have you tried to re-download the package? If so, one thing you can try is breaking the install into pieces in the autoinstall.lst script. It's really quite easy. That could isolate the issue to one file, or it may allow you to get them all on if there's some hiccup when it's trying to do them all at once.

thank you. For the computer illiterate, how would one go about doing this 😆

Haha, it's really quite easy. I'll assume your autoinstall.lst file is the same as the one posted several posts above, that looks like this:

Code:
; SYNC3 Consumer Assembly Upgrade - Release 3.0.25 - Only for Nav/NA assemblies.

[SYNCGen3.0_3.0.20204_PRODUCT]
Item1 = HB5T-14G386-THB
Open1 = SyncMyRide\HB5T-14G386-THB.tar.gz
Item2 = HB5T-14G386-TCC
Open2 = SyncMyRide\HB5T-14G386-TCC.tar.gz
Item3 = JR3T-14G391-CE
Open3 = SyncMyRide\JR3T-14G391-CE.tar.gz
Item4 = JR3T-14G381-AX
Open4 = SyncMyRide\JR3T-14G381-AX.tar.gz
Item5 = JR3T-14G423-CB
Open5 = SyncMyRide\JR3T-14G423-CB.tar.gz
Item6 = GB5T-14G386-AC
Open6 = SyncMyRide\GB5T-14G386-AC.tar.gz
Options = AutoInstall,Delay
In this case, the ; at the beginning of a line basically says "ignore this". So, use that to skip items. What others have had success with is using a process like this:

Code:
; SYNC3 Consumer Assembly Upgrade - Release 3.0.25 - Only for Nav/NA assemblies.

[SYNCGen3.0_ALL]
Item1 = JR3T-14G391-CE
Open1 = SyncMyRide\JR3T-14G391-CE.tar.gz
Options = AutoInstall,Delay
So, this would install the Voice file, then pop a message when it's done. If it works, you'd shut off the vehicle for ~2 minutes (watch for the USB light to go out), and while you're doing that update the script for the next files listed in the original...Item4/Open4 (Gracenote), then Item5/Open5 (Main Application). You'd leave it as Item1/Open1 in the new script and just update what it's pointing to. Hopefully this makes sense? To edit the file, just right click on it and open it using Notepad.

Just for some closure: I gave up, went to Ford. They tried with a usb and then a laptop and failed. Told me I needed a new module which I ordered for almost $600 and would charge me $225 to install next Monday. Today I did the cyanlab download and everything is perfect, version 3.4. CarPlay, everything. Super happy tomorrow going to cancel the order and get my module money back. Here is the link in case anybody wants to try.

Yep...that is another option and you can also download the latest maps but only if your Sync has Sat Nav.
The only thing is that you are locked into their system now and can only do Cyanlab updates as Ford ones won't work as they don't support Cyanlabs.
Probably won't concern you as the Ford updates didn't work for you anyway...:)

How do you use this cyanlab that you are referring to? I am not good with computers and am having the same issues installing the update in my Escape.

I have been trying to update my sync3 V1 to the current version.
1) What error do you see? "bad installation file", "installation failed - out of space or wrong version"
2) When? for the past month now, after I tried master reset and a key cycle
3) Tried anything tried to install in two parts, also tried using a file from the ford/uk site (see link) to retrieve the file to update the ford site.
this video is where I got the idea for the file.
4) Vehicle model year 2016 Non-Nav
5) Region: US
I did master reset and key cycle between each attempt. Today, after doing a master reset and key cycle, when I put in the usb, it gives me the bad installed file error.
