How do you use this cyanlab that you are referring to? I am not good with computers and am having the same issues installing the update in my Escape.
Cyanlabs is a 3rd party, not affiliated with Ford. They replace the Ford software with their software. It’s very easy and a ton of people have used it including myself. After getting frustrated by Ford online and with the dealership, I did the cyan lab software and it worked perfectly without drama. I’m happy with it, but be aware it’s not genuine Ford software. I have sync 3 version 3.4 with apple car play, even though Ford would only offer version 3.0 and in the end never even worked.

@UofMEngineer Can you help me out any?

I have been trying to update my sync3 V1 to the current version.
1) What error do you see? "bad installation file", "installation failed - out of space or wrong version"
2) When? for the past month now, after I tried master reset and a key cycle
3) Tried anything tried to install in two parts, also tried using a file from the ford/uk site (see link) to retrieve the file to update the ford site.
this video is where I got the idea for the file.
4) Vehicle model year 2016 Non-Nav
5) Region: US
I did master reset and key cycle between each attempt. Today, after doing a master reset and key cycle, when I put in the usb, it gives me the bad installed file error.

Hello UofM Engineer,

Insufficient cred to PM directly. Appear to be having same issue as everyone.
1) Sync 3 v2 to v3 update and getting Mem003 error.
2) Happens about 5-10mins into update process
3) Attempted update many times, also did master reset to attempt.. Last attempt after reading on here, modified .lst file to remove -SC which worked (No gracenote version). Then ran factory script with -SC removed. Same issue. Lastly checked APIM, found -BF was present, so removed that from script and ran. Same mem03 error.

4) 2017 Escape SE no nav.
5) US/NA
Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance from Oakland County!

It seems like most hitting this go the CL route mentioned above to get around it, assuming (and likely) you're out of warranty.

For this one, it looks like the Voice file updated properly based on the image. Tweak the script to install only the 14G381 file, nothing else. See if that gets around it. You can also try a Master Reset to clear it out. If none of that works, and you're out of warranty, you can use the alternative method others used above.

Thanks for the input! Unsure what the other methods were for MY17. Just before your reply I tried again with the -BF removed it gave me a complete for the first part, rebooted, said update was successful for the second part but still gave a mem03 error and I don't believe generated the .xml. Screen appears to show 3.0 and it repopulated GN. Suggestions on this? I mean it appears like it may have completed, but still getting the error seems strange

OK, it looks like you're probably good to go. The GN database is old, but it's installed. Whether that's of any use to you depends on your use cases. Does your download package have the -BB version?

Hey UofM,

So running -BB (GN update?) by itself told me updating was ready to install but still gave Mem03 error.

I then ran the -SC (GN delete?), verified GN was blanked out. Then ran the -BB and -AC (.xml generator?). It didn't give the prompt for update detected, but launched into the update. I'm at about ~15mins so far with updating message. Would this be the typical time frame?

Thanks,

Should be done around then, yes.

Hello again UofM,

So I ran the -BB and -AC for about 1.5hrs before I gave up. When I looked at the files on USB it had the added log file, so I assume I interrupted it. Gave it 20mins to shutdown and when I key up without USB plugged in it still shows updating software. No GC populated and it looks like the -SC also removed the BA package?

Trying to determine where to go from here. Do you jave any suggestions?

Slight addendum. I did a master reset (Retained v3.0) and reloaded the -BB, -AC drive only form the second part of .lst and it went through quite quickly ~15mins. Said complete, remove USB and no Mem03 error. Reloaded the same GN (GL-0011), and didn't mention .xml file. At this point is it all set? Was the updated GN just not available for this unit?

Is it still the -BA version showing? Some have used the Nav GN pack that's smaller instead to get around the error.

Hello UofM,

After the master reset and putting the drive in a 3rd time, it said update successful. It did generate the .xml. Though it still shows the older GN and -BA isn't showing in APIM. What components are in the -BA package, as in from what I can tell everything looks updated at this point except for GN, and no idea why it didn't get a later version.

No that’s all right now. -BB is the one that goes with that release. You’re all set.

Hi...I'm new on this forum. I was looking for a solution to update my Sync 3 system and found this forum. I read almost the thousand posts but didn't find a really easy solution. I found you ask for a PM to give some help, and here I go...

1) What error do you see? No error, when trying the USB install, it said Software update was installing at the top, but it didn't do anything as I waited for more than an hour.
2) When? Updating Sync 3 V2.2 revision 16223_PRODUCT to V3.0 (Gracenote version: 1.1.1797 (GL-0011))
3) Have you tried anything on your own to fix it, e.g. install a different package? I've tried several USB drives, differents cappacities, several download from Ford site (according to my VIN number).
4) Vehicle model year? Ford Escape 2017

Do you see any error after you remove the drive? I know sometime it would throw a delayed error when that was removed. If not, you can try to cut down on the script to:

Code:
; SYNC3 Consumer Assembly Upgrade - Release 3.0.25 - Only for Nav/TN-RoW assemblies.
[SYNCGen3.0_3.0.20204_PRODUCT]
Item1 = JR3T-14G391-DE

Item4 = GB5T-14G386-AC

Options = AutoInstall,Delay
This won't kick out the XML at the end, and skips some of basic checks at the beginning. Not sure what would be tripping it up though especially if multiple USB drives are doing the same thing.

I haven't seen any error message...In fact, the "Updating system software" message at the top of the screen never dissapeared. I had to turn off the car once and remove de USB drive (after more than an hour waiting to finish updating), when I started the car again the message still on the screen, I had to reset the system to erase the message and everything keeped working as usual.

I'll try this script. Is it safe to skip part of the script, especially the hardware check part? I dont want to convert my system into a useless brick... (sorry, i'm not really a tech expert)

As long as you're using the right one, direct from Ford, it shouldn't be a problem. The same script change has worked for others, no idea why it seems like sometimes it get stuck. You can also change the header from [SYNCGen3.0_3.0.20204_PRODUCT] to [SYNCGen3.0_ALL] as well to signify a "new" update. Shouldn't need it though I don't think.
